Iron Age Britain · c.300BC
Explore Britain's enigmatic Iron Age settlements as they stood 2,000 years ago — 21 defended hilltop communities reconstructed across the North Somerset landscape.
Worlebury Camp, Weston-super-Mare, as it appears today from the air (left) and as reconstructed in MSFS at c.300BC (right). The hillfort's ramparts and the Bristol Channel beyond are visible in both images.
Over 4,500 Iron Age hillforts have been identified across the British Isles. This collection brings together 21 of these iconic sites from across the northern part of Somerset — running south along the Severn Estuary from Bristol to Brent Knoll and east inland along the Mendip Hills.
Developed in collaboration with North Somerset Council's senior archaeologist, each site has been reconstructed to reflect its landscape setting, its possible earthworks, revetments, palisades and gateways, and the roundhouses and grain stores that would have made up its interior.
Fly low and slow across sites that dominated the landscape two thousand years ago and still maintain their mystery today.

"Exciting to see your work on the hill forts. One thing I particularly like is that they give an immediate sense of scale and situation that is often very hard to achieve through maps and plans alone. You can immediately sense the difference between the larger settlements and the smaller ones, which in turn hints at things like social implications, territorial footprint, visibility and so forth."Prof. Leif Isaksen — Professor of Ancient History and Digital Humanities, University of Exeter
